HBSCA Preparing for Phase 2 . . . .

Phase 2 Up-Date, July 27, 2006

The Humber Bay Shores Condominium Association’s Beautification Committee met with Uyen Dias, from the City’s Tree Advocacy Planting Program in early July to clarify landscaping plans for the Humber Bay Shores area and to offer input to those plans for the short to medium term, i.e., this Fall and next Spring.

It was agreed that completing the work started last Fall on the north side of Lake Shore Blvd.W., between the Gardiner off ramp and Palace Pier Court should be given priority. This includes completing cleanup of the area, related soil and land preparation (September – October 2006) and the initial phase of tree planting that will follow (October 2006); between 40 – 60 trees will be planted. Naturalization (shrubs and other natural flora) to this area is to follow in the Spring 2007.

The Beautification Committee also submitted another proposal to the Clean and Beautiful City Secretariat for grant funding to further support beautification efforts to the Humber Bay Shores area. A decision as to whether we will again receive funding has not yet been made.

In the fall of 2005, HBSCA was invited to participate in the City's 'Clean and Beautiful City' initiative. Without hesitation we agreed and turned our attention to improving the north side of Lake Shore Boulevard between the Humber Streetcar loop and Palace Pier.

With seed funding from the City we secured other funding from Davies Smith, Monarch Development, our own Association and with assistance from Councillor Mark Grimes, we completed Phase I of this initiative.

We now are looking for volunteers to join our committee and help with the planning and implementation of Phase 2. Please join us in making this happen: call or fax 416-410-5781 or email mail@humberbayshores.org or write to HBSCA at suite 1808, 2045 Lake Shore Blvd. West, attention Judi Richter-Jacobs.
