At the January 19th
meeting with Traffic and Transit officials and Councillor
Mark Grimes, our committee continued to press for a Legion
Road traffic light and were advised that this issue remains
on their "radar screen". Other matters tabled included: |
| |
 |
a
lane addition on Lake Shore Boulevard east of Brookers Lane
as well as in front of Players Club |
| |
 |
traffic lights at the egress from Newport Beach and Lake
Shore Boulevard; this light would be sensor-based and could
be activated by cars exiting Newport Beach, the streetcar
emerging from the tunnel or by pedestrians; and |
| |
 |
the possibilities of better public transit services for our
communities to gain improved access to neighbouring
facilities; this includes expanding the Prince Edward-Old
Mill subway station route to include pick up zones at Marine
Parade Drive and Lake Shore Boulevard |
|
Mike Wehkind, TTC Program Manager, Transportation
Planning, West District has agreed to establishing a transit
sub-committee to develop specific proposals to address new
services required. Our Heather Brown, Jim Reekie and
Moti Costa will form this sub-committee which bodes
well for our working relationship with these important
influencers. |

Meeting April 2005 |
|
In April our Traffic Committee
representatives met with Mark Grimes (our City Councillor)
and City officials of various departments . The concerns
raised regarding the clean-up of the Humber Loop Streetcar
Tunnel and the Lake Shore Blvd traffic lanes needing
repainting have been addressed.
The commitment to install
traffic lights at the intersection of Lake Shore and
Brookers Lane (opposite Gardiner entry and exit ramps) has
yet to be completed. Monarch Developments has remitted the
requisite payment to the City many months ago to offset the
cost of this installation. Monitoring with officials
continues.
