The Traffic and Transportation committee has been working with both the Toronto Transit Commission and the Etobicoke York District Transportation Services Division for the past six years, advocating for improvements to what is seen as the most pressing infrastructure issue of the area: better access to public transit, reducing traffic congestion, and improving safety along Lake Shore.

Transportation Committee

In November 2008, the committee, with the consistent support and assistance of Councillor Mark Grimes and other local councillors, was successful in convincing the TTC to improve service on the bus route along Park Lawn/Prince Edward to Old Mill Station to include all day service, and to extend service to residents along Marine Parade Drive. In addition, HBSCA obtained a commitment to start an express bus service from Grand Harbour to Union Station, which is expected to start in late 2009. [TTC Report Page]

The committee is also monitoring and participating in discussions regarding the proposed Light Rail Transit Service along Lake Shore, which was announced by the TTC as part of the overall service improvements in Toronto. The Province of Ontario has announced funding for the construction of the lines, which are incorporated into the Regional Transportation Plan recently proposed by Metrolinx. [Transit Improvements Report]
The committee is currently negotiating with the Etobicoke York District Transportation Services Division to install a traffic signal to provide a safe pedestrian crossing to the streetcar tunnel, and to improve access for cars at Newport Beach, which is expected to be put in place in late 2009 or early 2010.
