HBSCA Progress Hampered Re TTC Re Express Service

We appear to be caught up in a "catch 22" situation with the Express Bus initiative. The trial that was suggested last January has now been modified to call for the up-front purchase of 60 $700 Metro Passes. That's a total of $43,000 to be raised for a service that does not yet exist, nor been officially announced.

Mark Grimes' office continues discussions with TTC officials on the matter.

Archive Info:

At the Committee's meeting with TTC officials January 19th, it was confirmed that the TTC is willing to establish Express Bus service to downtown on a trial basis for six months on the condition that HBSCA sell a minimum of 60 metro passes plus a premium of $2.00 per pass.

Exact timing of the trial to be announced.

In May our Traffic Committee representatives met with Mark Grimes (our City Councillor) and Mark Haskill, Senior Planner at the TTC, to discuss the implementation of an Express Bus service to downtown. This service would be separate from the existing Palace Pier and Palace Place shuttle service.

The TTC's view is that the ridership was not sufficient at this time to justify this type of service as presented in our "express bus service survey" and other resident count information.

We remain convinced that the rapid rate of resident growth in our community will soon reach the point where the TTC will have to recognize the merits of this service. We are awaiting a response to our letter making these subsequent arguments and asking the TTC to reconsider.

We will keep you posted on progress.
