Response from Walter Melnyk, Ward 6 Candidate, Election 2006

Thank you for your questions.

I am not the incumbent with access to city planners and reports, nonetheless I agree with the need for bus services. No candidate can provide you with an exact timeframe. But, I believe your concerns need quick action! You have been overpaying taxes but not getting the services for which you have paid (please refer to your TAXPAYERS BILL OF RIGHTS or visit our website www.waltermelnyk.com). I continue to try to empower citizens with specific rights in order to get timely and tangible results. Value for your tax dollars.

That the traffic lights and other measures ought to be in place FIRST,  only makes sense if we truly want to eliminate gridlock and other city problems. Please refer to YOUR Taxpayers Bill of Rights.

You have already paid for these city services. Where has our tax money gone? Stop  wasteful spending by city  and adhere to the basic city mandate. This is it's lawful and historical mandate.

HBSCA , on a per square foot basis, pays MORE taxes than other areas.  Improvements and maintenance must follow.

As this community begins to receive quality benefits for money (already paid), then together, in consultation and collaboration, we can define its present and future identity according to consensus as it develops. It's what the PEOPLE think and say which is important. The Bill  of  Rights guarantees participatory democracy. Not "top down democracy"  that you have been getting till now.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Walter Melnyk
