Sewage Treatment Plant
The Humber Bay Sewage Treatment Plant began operation in 1960, serving a population of approximately 651,000 in Etobicoke, York as well as the west end of North York and Toronto.
With the construction of our community the odors emitted from the plant have been an important issue. With the support of our councilor an odour study was completed in 2005 and an action plan to correct the issues was developed and approved by city council. As you can appreciate this is a multiyear project estimated to cost between $85 and $145million to complete. The project has a phased implementation with the items with the biggest impact scheduled for the first phase. Presently the construction of a number of plan improvements is underway and we expect to see significant improvement by the summer of 2010. HBSCA has been involved in the Neighbourhood Liaison Committee since it was formed in 2003 to provide interested residents and businesses an opportunity to discuss plant issues with City of Toronto staff. The Committee meets every two year or as needed.
